RO DBT Skills Group

What is RO DBT?  RO is an adaptation of the original Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) that focuses on people who's difficulties stem from excessive overcontrol, or as I like to call it, overthinking.

Dr Thomas Lynch spent years as a DBT Therapist and determined that there was a population that had just as much mental pain but was resistant to typical treatment approaches. They were less likely to be noticed because they didn't have loud outward behaviors but had just as much suffering. He found that they were suffering from an emotional loneliness stemming from overcontrolling themselves.

RO DBT isn't just recommended based on diagnosis because it's a treatment based on our individual coping styles, however, clients often have Anxiety, OCD, OCPD, ADHD, Anorexia, or are on the Autism Spectrum.

Like DBT, a full protocol of group and individual therapy is recommended.  Skills can be taught individually, however, the evidence about the effectiveness hasn't been established.  In our experience, the social nature of group has shown a significantly better improvement over individual therapy alone.

If you are currently in therapy with an RO DBT therapist, you are welcome to stay with your current therapist and join our group.

To get started you can contact our administrative Assistant Cindy at intake@waystationcounseling.org and she can help you find a therapist suited to your needs, or fill out the contact form below.
