Insurance and Fees

Waystation Counseling tries to make therapy as painless as possible (at least the business aspects, the rest depends on your therapist. Many of our professionals accept insurance for outpatient services and we try to make therapy accessible.

Typical Cost: Each Therapist at Waystation Counseling is allowed to set their own cash rate, and rates vary depending on appointment length. Before you commit to treatment, your therapist will give you a clear idea of the typical session cost. You first session will be $150 unless you have a preexisting sliding scale agreement with your therapist.

Most of our clinicians will provide a free 15 minute consultation upon request, please email them if you are interesting in scheduling one.

Average out of pocket cost, ranges from $90-$180 depending on session length and services provided (average around $125 for 60 minute sessions). Most clients are able to use the insurance coverage depending on their plan.

Sliding Scale: Many of our clinicians accept sliding scale on a case by case basis. Please email them for availability and policies.

Group Program pricing: Skills group are out of pocket/Out of Network and we encourage you to check with your insurance provider for instructions about how to submit for reimbursement of your out-of-pocket expense for these programs. We will provide the documentation to submit and include a truly flexible payment contract.

Group is between $60-$75/ session depending on your contract agreement.

Payment type: We accept all major credit card, HSA cards, and cash. We do not accept prepaying by check but we can accept checks on a case by case basis and there is a $50 returned payment fee.

Insurance Companies: Here is a list of some of the insurance companies that we are contracted with. This list is subject to change and exceptions, because insurance companies are complicated.

BCBS (Blue Advantage, Blue Care, Blue Home with Novant Health, Blue Options, Blue Select, Classic Blue, North Carolina State Health Plan Network). All of our clinicians are in-network with BCBS.

We are not in network with BLUE LOCAL (Atrium). Other plans are subject to their individual contracts and we can check for you!

United/UMR: Trish Lockhart and Jannie Engel can bill for United.

Cigna/Evernorth: All providers can bill Cigna. Associate licensed clinicians (they have an A at the end of their license) will bill under a supervising provider and you may see their name on your insurance paperwork.

Medcost/CBHA: Jannie Engel and Trish Lockhart can take CBHA (if you work for a medical related company you likely have CBHA). Associate licensed clinicians can bill will Medcost (they have an A at the end of their license) will bill under a supervising provider and you may see their name on your insurance paperwork.

Tricare (OON benefits): Currently, Jannie Engel can bill Out of Network, which means that you pay upfront but are reimbursed for your session costs from Tricare.

Aetna: All clinicians can bill Aetna. Associate licensed clinicians (they have an A at the end of their license) will bill under a supervising provider and you may see their name on your insurance paperwork.

Medicare: We are currently working on a Medicare contract (hopefully late 2021). We are able to take some Medicare plans if they around through a commercial insurance provider but we cannot take supplemental plans at this time.

All Other insurance companies: Many of the new insurance companies will allow you to set up a contract with a provider of your choice. We can help figure out if this is the case. Please feel free to contact us and ask. intake@waystationcounseling.org


If we cannot take your insurance we have a policy of courtesy billing, which means that we will file the out of network (OON) claim for you whenever possible or, if you have to submit claims a different way, we will provide you with a superbill for you to submit. Superbills are not available to clients utilizing sliding scale.
